Haus a rest – issue 35 Womanhood
Artwork – ‘Untitled Lies’ 2022
I was inspired by the Weeping Woman but not in a positive way, as I wanted to show the true woman behind the ugly portrait, who is indeed Dora Maar the lover of Picasso. Through researching Maar’s legacy, I found out that Picasso mistreated her and in the Weeping Woman, he forced Maar to be upset. Her own career as a photographer was overshadowed by Picasso’s lies in his artwork

At the moment I am interested in linking all my artwork almost like it is it’s own visual world, this idea came from my love of cinema and cinematography. I also deconstruct and reconstruct old canvases which I find interesting, the idea of recycling as it combats the statism in the art world as materials are so expensive.

My artwork is shifted towards the area of breaking traditional elements of painting which Francisco Goya was a huge inspiration. I also studied the form of unfinished artworks which helps me see a different world of painting in between form and lines. I am a mixed media artist that experiments in painting, sculpture and drawing. I am constantly trying to challenge myself to achieve a unique style.
Relation to Abstraction:
My artwork consists of found objects that are unwanted, especially old pieces of wood. Then I would create my canvas or sculpture from scratch before canvas around the piece and painting scenery. My sculpture pieces I class them as 3D canvas’ as I painting around the sculpture, in a cinematic style.
